Rudy

Loving home sought for Rudy, a male Airedale Terrier. He is approximately 55 pounds and is between 7 and 10 years old. This provides a comprehensive overview of Rudy, a dog with specific medical, housing, and behavioral needs.

Rudy is a loveable dog and needs a home best suited to care for him. He was found as a stray in TN, and a woman took care of him until she surrendered him to a shelter. The shelter contacted ARG to take Rudy in. Rudy has one unusual marking, a cryo-brand on the left flank of the letter R. He was likely a hunting dog or a farm animal.

Medical Conditions and Treatments: Rudy is heartworm negative but suffers from progressive retinal atrophy, resulting in functional blindness that probably became complete when he was 4-5yr old. He has a dysplastic right hip, which necessitates daily NSAID treatment and may require surgery, but he needs lots of exercise and has no problem trotting around for a few miles at a time. Additionally, he has a CCL effusion; it is not determined if surgery is recommended. Rudy is a cryptorchid, and therefore, his neuter status is uncertain, as is his age.

Housing and Comfort Requirements: Rudy requires nonslip carpeting or rugs due to his fear of slipping on hard floors. He needs a fenced yard with secure gates, as he is known to test gates and pull metal fences with his teeth. Rudy would benefit from a heated bed in winter and thick memory foam beds with bolsters for comfort due to his sore hip. He enjoys being outside and would likely appreciate a heated kennel with access to the outdoors. If he lives inside, he wants to be with his human and is currently mostly only using the yard if the foster mom is outside with him.

Behavior and Training: Rudy follows his owner persistently and is learning commands slowly due to overstimulation. He is best suited to living with a male dog and no cats. Rudy tends to herd and use his mouth, can be boisterous with children, and requires leash guidance during walks due to his tendency to run quickly and be distracted. He is not dog aggressive but attempts to hump some dogs and occasionally digs, necessitating monitoring to prevent yard escape. He has learned to use the dog door to go in and out of the house, but doesn’t want to go out without his human.

Please contact ARG at info@airedalerescuegroup.com if you can provide Rudy the home he needs. Prefer folks in AL, GA, NC, SC or TN.
Willow & Jo: Adoption Pending

We have two awesome dogs, Willow and Jo, ages 7 and 8, weighing in at 60 and 75 pounds, respectively. They're microchipped and that information needs to be confirmed. One of them occasionally needs allergy meds. They live with two adults and a 2-year-old child. These pups are a mix of energy and chill – they love to walk, run, hike, and cuddle on the couch. They're super patient and great with kids of all ages and other dogs.

They prefer either male or female dog buddies, depending on the dog. They live indoors but have access to a fenced yard. They're crate trained and can be left alone for 4-8 hours. They're good on a leash, tolerate grooming, and love car rides. They eat salmon-based food, about 2 cups a day. Willow likes to dig holes, while Jo is a big couch potato. Both have typical Airedale traits and just need someone who can give them the attention, life, and love they deserve.

She is located in GA. We prefer to adopt these girls together.

Duchess
Adoption Pending

Duchess remains available for adoption. The owners thought they would keep her, but their allergies are getting the best of them.

The owner writes: "She is a very loving dog now that she’s the only one. Plus, I do think she’d be ok with a small puppy if either sex, since she never got to raise any of her own. She’s great on a leash now, she just doesn’t know a whole lot: example she will not fetch a ball, has 0 interest. But she has definitely turned into a living girl, who wants to be beside her human. She loves going for walks. We have changed her food and not seen any issues, so unsure if she needs the sensitive foods anymore. She’s a great girl, & I just want her to have a chat to be a special dog to someone who would keep her indoors/outdoors. She likes to be indoors as much as possible, is always clean in her crate (she has one accident in a year), & I didn’t hear her, or she wouldn’t have had it."

Do you have a home for Duchess?
Duchess is a 6-year-old female looking for a new, loving home. She is 55 lbs.
She is with an older couple who can’t manage her anymore. They have kept her outside in a large enclosure but she is indoors overnight and crated. She is not spayed and needs to be updated on shots which ARG will pay for once in a new home. She was recently groomed.

She is a more independent girl, so don’t expect a cuddly one. She walks ok on a leash but gets distracted easily and needs some work. She is not well socialized. However, once the other dog that lived at the home is placed, Duchess is seeking attention more and doing better leash walking.
She is being fed Diamond Naturals, and she does have a sensitive stomach.
The couple who have her took her from a breeder who was retiring due to illness. They have had her a year. She is located in GA.

Best to be placed in an adult home and no female dogs and no cats.

Jack - Adoption Pending

Jack is a super energetic dog who was born on March 24, 2019, and weighs 46 lbs. He recently moved to an apartment and isn't adjusting well. He pulls on the leash and has knocked his owner down when he sees another dog or person, which scares them. Jack used to have a fenced backyard to run and play in, but now he's stuck in an apartment. He's not great on a leash. Jack is very loving and sweet at home, loves car rides, and is good with other dogs off-leash. Jack is an escape artist and should not be left unattended in a fenced yard. He loves to cuddle but doesn't like being held. He barks when someone enters the home and is used to being alone for short periods; a couple of hours. Jack is up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative. He'll be neutered before placement and gets monthly Simparica Trio for health. He also has Trazodone for anxiety during thunderstorms or vet visits. He is eating Purina One, 3 cups per day. An adult home is preferred; no small dogs and no cats with a fenced yard.

Located in TN.
